General procedures
NARs can and should be updated to RDA if they are in AACR2, or of more identifying information is readily available.
By identifying information, we mean:
046 - Dates associated with the entity
053 - Literary call number [for personal names]
368 $d - Title of a person [for personal names]
378 - Fuller form of a name [for personal names]
4XX - Variant names
5XX - Related entities
642 - Series numbering [for series]
When updating, first you must lock the original record in OCLC by going to Action > Lock master record.
Follow the PUL guidelines when entering new information:
Uniform titles
Events
Do not change existing 670s, even if they do not comply with current PUL/RDA standards.
Add a 946 note noting what was added or what has changed.
Adding death dates to a record
You can update a personal name heading to include the death date in the 100 $d.
Add a 400 reference for the old form of the heading (without the death dates), preceded with $w nnea
Add the death date to any other 400 reference.
Add a 670 to justify the new dates.
Change the heading in the bib records in Voyager to include the death date. If there are too many headings to change manually, inform the Authorities co-chairs.
