Updated 2019
If the item you are cataloging represents a new discrete, identifiable concept; a non-free-floating subdivision to an already established subject heading; or if you feel that an existing subject heading needs to be updated, consider submitting a SACO proposal.
SACO proposals
PUL SACO proposals should be sent via email to SACO coordinator.
Before submitting a proposal make sure that:
- Proposed heading does not duplicate an existing heading, or has not already been established in another form.
- Heading hasn’t already been proposed and denied by the Editorial Committee by looking at the monthly summary of decisions.
- Proposal is necessary; i.e., it is not covered by a free-floating subdivision or phrase.
- You have referred to any appropriate memo in the SHM (for instance, H 715 for Ancient cities). If there is no appropriate memo, look for an LC pattern to follow.
Please consult the following sets of instructions:
- Instructions for creating new headings.
- Instructions for updating existing headings.
