E-Books
E-Resources are managed, cataloged and loaded into Alma in a number of ways, from large batch loads of MARC records to single original cataloging records. For those that are cataloged in batch, we use MarcEdit to "clean up" the records.
In Alma, there are primarily:
Electronic Collections – a managed set of portfolios (which are attached to bibliographic records). These can be managed by Alma, activated from the Community Zone (CZ), or created as Local Electronic Collections managed by PUL. In addition, it is possible to have a hybrid Electronic Collection, with some CZ records and some locally cataloged and loaded records.
Databases – single records without portfolios, typically for a website or electronic access service.
Standalone portfolios – these are portfolios attached to bibliographic records that are not part of a Electronic Collection and are locally cataloged and managed.
PUL manages each of the above types of non-serials e-books, or e-resources (in the case of Databases). For a list of the current packages/collections that we track, see our List Of Collections.
