Supplement/Special Issue & Parent Entry Notes (770/772)
Field 770 contains entries for supplements or special issues associated with the record in hand when the supplements or special issues are cataloged in separate records. When employing a 770 MARC field describing a supplement or special issue add MARC field 772 (Parent supplement entry) to a record describing a supplement or special issue. to a record describing a supplement or special issue. In the examples below Journal of cellular biochemistry is the parent in example 1 and News of the Cooperative Health Statistics System is the parent in example 2. ⮚Example3: Field 580 (Linking Entry Complexity Note) and Relationship Information (Subfield “g”)
The first indicator determines the note display. When the linking note is to be generated from field 770 or 772, set the first indicator of the field to value "0." When the linking note is input in field 580, set the first indicator of field 770 or 772 to value "1." Subfield $g contains numeric and/or alphabetic, chronological, or other designation that identifies the relationship of the resource with the related item. The designation is derived from the period covered by the resource being cataloged and not from the period covered by the related record. Subfield $g is used only when this information is readily available. Examples of its use include entries for supplements and absorptions.
