Preceding Title Information (780)

While linking entry fields (780/785) function to bring related records together, they are not intended to provide additional authorized access points for the resource being described. It must contain the authorized access point representing the related resource if applicable. The authorized access point is based on the 1XX/240/245 fields in the related record. When a record exists for the earlier entry (as represented in the 780 field), field 785 should be present on that record.
⮚First Indicator. The first indicator determines the note display. When the note is generated from the link itself (in most situations), the first indicator is set to “0”. Set the first indicator to “1” if a note is generated in the 580 field.
⮚Second Indicator. The second indicator describes the relationship between the serial being cataloged and the preceding entry and generates a note corresponding to the relationship.
⮚Continues (Second Indicator = 0). Denotes that the preceding title (Serial A) describing the expression or manifestation has ceased, being continued under a new title (Serial B) with the number sequence or starting a new sequence.
