General Guidelines
The physical processing of a collection depends on whether it is to be bound together, bound separately, or boxed.
- (Consult a Team Leader if binding decision has not been made.)
- Bound items may be cataloged for any location.
- Boxed items go to Annex B or ReCAP.
Collections to be Boxed
- Make a loose title page for each box. Write the call number on the verso of the title page.
- Make a loose table of contents listing each item in the box (within reason). Use Table of Contents as a header, and number the items.
- Ask Plating and Labelling to make call number labels with the location and call number (and box number if necessary), and affix them in each individual item (within reason).
- The box will be labelled by Plating and Labeling.
Collections to be Bound Together
- Make a title page for each bound volume. It generally contains only the title, or a name and title. Write the call number on the verso of the title page.
- Make a table of contents listing each item in the bound volume. Use Table of Contents as a header, and number the items.
- Call number labels will be made by Plating and Labelling as for any bound volume.
Collections to be Bound Separately
- Assign a general call number applicable to the collection as a whole, and arbitrarily assign volume numbers to each item in the collection.
- Write the call number and volume number on the t.p. verso of each item as you would for a bookset.
- List the entire contents of the collection in a formal contents note.
- Call number labels will be made by Plating and Labelling as for any bookset.
