Collection-Level Description
Collection-level cataloging brings together items with common characteristics and provides a single catalog record with access points relevant to the whole set of materials.
Items can be easily grouped by gathering materials which share an identical access point (as a number of items written by the same author, or issued by the same body), or which would have very similar access points (most commonly a subject). Items can also be grouped whose value as research material is similar, such as a number of heavily annotated textbooks used in the Gaza Strip.
Whatever criteria are used to gather materials to make up a collection, there must be some access point common to them all:Â author, subject, conference, series title, corporate body, form subject heading, etc.
