Local Field 907
PURPOSE OF THE 907 FIELD
The local 907 field was introduced in 2025 with a twofold purpose:
to indicate when a significant update has been made to a serial record
to indicate that cataloging has been completed, in serial records lacking a 902
The field also provides the basis for statistics for serials bibliographic adjustments. It is repeatable, if multiple updates are made over time. It is intended to be used only for print serials, since the majority of our e-serial records come from the Alma CZ and typically are not edited locally.
CREATING THE TEMPLATES
Find your Alma user ID. If not known, it can be found on your University ID card.
In the Metadata Editor, select Templates > MARC21 Bib in the left pane.
Type 907 in the search box. This brings up the Shared template serial 907 generic.
Click on serial 907 generic. This generates a new bib record based on the template, which contains a 907 field only. Ignore the error alert in red at the bottom of the record.
Personalize the template by replacing [Alma user ID] with your user ID, without brackets, and by deleting "/reviewed" from subfield w. The result should look similar to this:
907 $$a 010001224 $$w updated $$5 newSelect the menu option Save > Save as Template.
In the pop-up window, name your template: [your initials] 907 updated
Save it as a Private template.
For the second template, edit the record still on the screen to replace "updated" with "reviewed" (no quotation marks).
Save this also as a Private template, named: [your initials] 907 reviewed
Switch to Templates > MARC21 Bib > Private and verify that the two new personalized 907 templates are listed there.
Return to the Records tab and release (without saving) the single-field bib record generated during the template creation process.
Click on New > Templates display configuration.
Locate the 2 newly created personalized templates and toggle the "Display in Menu" option for both. Click Save.
USING THE TEMPLATES
After completing the update or review of a record, save it (but do not release it). In order for the timestamp to be accurate, this must be done first.
Under Editing Actions, select Expand from Template.
Choose Template: select updated or reviewed, as appropriate; keep the default Add All and click OK.
Use F6 to split the MDE screen.
In left pane, select Rules and type 907 in the search box. This brings up a Drool called "Update 907 Field."
Click on the Drool and click Preview in the right pane; then click Apply Changes. This replaces $$5 new with $$1 [timestamp] -- based on the last update time that appears in the 005 field.
Save the record again.
