Correct Mismatched OCLC Control Number

For Princeton records that have gone through OCLC Data Sync, the control number of the matching OCLC record will display in 914$a and 035$a(OCoLC). If you detect a mismatch, i.e., the Alma record and the OCLC record do not actually represent the same manifestation, or if the former should have been matched with a fuller OCLC record, you may follow the steps below to correct the mismatch.

In OCLC Connexion Client

  1. Retrieve the mismatched bibliographic record by OCLC#.

  2. Unless PUL has another Alma record that is a true match with the OCLC record, remove PUL’s holding (Shift+F8, or Action > Holdings > Delete Holdings).

  3. If PUL was the only holding library, ask OCLC to delete the bibliographic record (which now has no holdings):

    1. Go to Action > Report Error… You may have to provide your name and email address.

    2. Put the following message into the message box: I have deleted our institutional holding of this master record. If there are no holdings elsewhere, then this record may be deleted. Thanks!

In Alma

If present, remove the following fields (so that the bib record can be matched again during the next weekly data sync):

  • 035 $a (OCoLC)#

  • 019 OCLC Control Number Cross-Reference, if applicable

  • 914

  • 915

If further editing is needed, follow the usual procedure of original or copy cataloging, in Connexion or in Alma.
