When the title on the preferred source appears in two or more languages, one is chosen as the title proper [recorded in 245a] with the other title serving as the parallel title proper [recorded in 245b and again in a 246 as illustrated below.

If the title appears in another language on an additional title page, treat the additional title as a parallel title proper and record as above. However, if the title appears in another language in a source other than a title page or on a later issue, treat the title as a Variant Title using subfield i. (CCM: 6.1.4.c)

More than One Parallel Title

Rare but occasionally, a resource will contain multiple parallel titles.

When a serial is a translation and the source contains both the original title and translation title

When a serial is a translation, and the source contains both the original title and translation title. If an original title is in a language different from that of a Title proper and the title is presented as an equivalent to a Title proper, then record it as a parallel title proper. Even in cases when all or some of the original text is given in the piece, or when the original title precedes the translation title, if the translation title has been chosen as the title proper, treat the original title as a parallel title proper (RDA 2.3.3.3)If an original title is in a language different from that of a title proper and the title is presented as an equivalent to a Title proper.

When the Preferred Title Changes

If the Parallel title changes on later issues, supply the title (246 field) with the second indicator value set to “#” with a $i note explaining the situation.
