Display Table of Contents

Creates a Table of Contents for the current page based on headings in the page.

To enable this function, make sure you have formatted the section headings on the page as Heading 2-6 (Heading 1 is typically reserved for the page title.)

1) Place the curser where you'd like to display the Table of Contents. Select the Menu option Insert > Table of Contents

2) Select list as the display type and disc as the style of the bullet point. You may also experiment with other parameters for different visual display. Press Save.

3) A Table of Contents will be generated, listing the section headings hierarchically, the way they are displayed in the Preview box.

The Table of Contents is synched with any future change you will make with section headings and does not need manual maintenance.

Anchor Macro

A similar navigational macro is Anchor. Place an anchor inside the page and you can create a URL that points to the anchored location.

The URL is stable and not susceptible to changes in section headings. See the pros and cons of the macros Table of Contents versus Anchors at Confluence Support
