Before you can move a record between Connexion Client and Alma, first you will need to configure Connexion by following these steps:

1) Download the attached Z3950.mbk to your local folder C:\Program Files (x86)\OCLC\Connexion\Program\Macros

2) Launch Connexion Client.  Open the Tools menu and select Options

3) Go to the General tab and select Startup OptionsCheck the Run a macro option, and in the drop-down menu below it, select Z3950!UTF8. (Note: After setting this option, every time you launch Connexion, you will briefly see a record open and immediately close.  This is needed in order to initialize the Z39.50 record encoding.)

4) Open the File menu and select Import Records....  Then click the Record Characteristics... button and set both Character Set options to UTF-8 Unicode.  Then click the Cancel button.
(Yes, that's right, you have to click Cancel, and the setting may not actually hold, but this still triggers something within Connexion that allows records to be imported with the correct encoding...)

5) Restart the Connexion Client

6) Go to the Z39.50 tab and configure it as shown:

7) Go to the Export tab.  Under the Destination section click Create.  Check OCLC Gateway Export and click OK.

8) Configure the dialog that appears as shown below.  (Contact Tom Ventimiglia to securely obtain the password.)

9) Click OK.  You will then be prompted to give the Export Destination.  Enter Princeton Alma.  Click OK again.  If you want to edit these settings later, you can do so by selecting Princeton Alma in the Export dialog, and clicking Edit.

10) Back in the Export dialog, select Record Characteristics.  Make sure both Character Set options are set to UTF-8 Unicode.

11) Also in the Export dialog, make sure Allow export of workforms is checked.

12) Click Apply then Close.
