Current 902 macros

  • CTRL + Shift + u (for books and serials)
  • CTRL + Shift + m (for music)
  • CTRL + Shift + i (for other formats)

General instructions

  • where to use: the active bib record in Voyager.
  • when to use: when the cataloging is completed.
  • The 902 is NOT repeatable.
  • The 902 field and the cataloging modification reporting form should NEVER be used at the same time unless performing a recon and transferring to a new location at the same time.
  • If you make corrections to a bib record do NOT add a 902.
  • The 902 macros marked "PCC" are only to be used by professional catalogers when creating a new PCC record.
  • Any catalog record which already has PCC coding in the 042 field is counted as LC copy and the LC macro should be used.
  • If you are cataloging 2 copies of a book, you create a 902 field and type "2" when prompted for the number of pieces. This number is used to count new pieces added to the collection. Do NOT use the Cataloging Modification Reporting Form.
  • If you are cataloging a bookset, you create a 902 field and when prompted for the number of pieces you type in the number of however many volumes you have at that time. Do NOT type in the number of volumes in which the set will be complete. Type in the number of volumes that you have, NOT the number on the items. Do NOT use the Cataloging Modification Reporting Form.
  • When adding copies or volumes to an already existing catalog record, use the Cataloging Modification Reporting Form and for the No. of pieces line, type in the number of volumes/copies you are adding. Do NOT type in the number on the volume(s). Do NOT add any volumes which are already on the record. Do NOT create a 902.
  • NEVER add a 902 to a record and mark it for export unless you are the person completing the cataloging, assigning the call number, etc.
  • The 902 option "Local" is used in branch libraries for thesis and other cataloging. It should not be used in central technical services units.
