Computing Equipment for PUL Staff

Equipment Provided

The Princeton University Library provides the following equipment to staff:

  • One standard laptop (Windows 11 or macOS) or desktop (Windows 11).

  • Up to two external monitors

  • Computer peripherals such as an external keyboard, mouse, camera, headset, and similar input/output accessories.

  • Printing to a network printer on campus

All Library staff will follow the Acceptable Use Policy for Information Technology and Digital Resources, Access to Accounts, and the Information Security Policy. Library IT adheres to the OIT Computer and Endpoint Security Requirements and the Cybersecurity Protocols initiative. All equipment is property of the Princeton University Library and must be returned to your supervisor or Library IT when your employment ends. Full time remote staff who have ended their employment with PUL do not need to send back computer keyboards, mice, or headsets. Staff members who have a legitimate business need to be issued more than one computing device (including tablets, iPad, etc.) will require approval.

Standard Computer Configuration

The baseline configuration for staff workstations is as follows:

  • One standard workstation -

    • Dell Latitude laptop or Dell OptiPlex desktop for Windows

    • Apple MacBook Pro for macOS

  • 16GB RAM

  • 512 GB Hard Drive

  • Up to two external monitors, current standard is 24”

  • External keyboard

  • External mouse

  • Optional accessories include -

    • External camera

    • Laptop docking station

    • Barcode scanners

    • Headset

Exceptions to the above standards will be evaluated and granted when needed for a specific job function or reasonable accommodations. Requests for all IT equipment, including peripherals, are through Library IT by sending an email to lsupport@princeton.edu. Staff must not purchase IT equipment through their individual department.

Ergonomic Peripherals and Medical Accommodations

If a staff member is requesting an ergonomic peripheral, an email should be sent to lsupport@princeton.edu with what equipment will assist them to comfortably perform their job duties. Exceptions based on medical accommodations may be requested  through the University's  accommodation request process.

Remote Work

Library staff who have an approved Flexible Work Agreement (FWA) to work from on-campus and remote work spaces will be issued a laptop to accommodate that flexibility. Employees working in two or more locations will be required to transport their assigned laptop to their work locations. Staff will not use personal computers to perform PUL job duties.

Printing

All on-campus PUL staff have access to a network printer in their area. Individual printers are not provided unless there is a business need and approved. This does not include specialty printers such as spine label or barcode printers.
