CaMS Cataloging Collective (CCC)

Overview and Initiatives

The CaMS Cataloging Collective (CCC) takes a collaborative approach to enhancing Princeton University Library's cataloging activities and community through professional development, collaboration, and recognition of the expertise of all PUL staff who are part of the cataloging workflow.

Overview

The CaMS Cataloging Collective is committed to: 

  • Enhancing the robustness of our cataloging systems due to its significant impact on the scholarly environment.

  • Addressing the evolving demands of technology and education with a commitment to diversity, equity, justice, and inclusion.

  • Building upon the work and expertise of dedicated librarians, catalogers, bibliographic specialists, and metadata specialists.

  • Engaging in dialogues to emphasize the importance of accurate and accessible cataloging for researchers, students, and learners.

  • Prioritizing ongoing knowledge sharing and collective learning to meet the needs of library staff, patrons, and the academic community.

  • Providing social events to foster a supportive and inclusive work environment and community, enhance interpersonal relationships, and boost productivity and collaboration.

Goals and Initiatives for 2024-2025

  • Develop programs to understand and apply the latest cataloging standards and technologies.

  • Maintain a dedicated platform for resources, events, and presenters’ contact information.

  • Periodically review and report on cataloging practices and their implementation.

  • Initiate an integrated workshop series combined with practical cataloging sessions to promote skills and collaborative learning.

  • Launch a cross-institutional speaker forum series with insights from field professionals to understand and apply the latest cataloging standards and technologies.

Membership and Participation

  • Open to all library staff interested in cataloging, based on inclusivity and collaborative  participation.

  • Members can shape the agenda, suggest topics, and participate in decision-making.

  • A feedback channel is available for members to share insights and suggestions.

Meeting and Project Schedule

  • Monthly meetings with the possibility of additional meetings for sub-groups or project teams.

  • Each session includes time for content delivery and informal socializing.

  • Meeting notes will be shared within two weeks after each meeting.

Documentation and Reporting

  • Agendas, notes, and documents are managed through a shared Google Drive folder.

  • An annual report summarizing activities and feedback is provided to the Library Strategy Council.

Mission Review and Resources

  • Annual review of the mission and membership to ensure alignment with goals and adapt to new challenges.

  • Activities supported by existing resources with additional needs for website maintenance, event hosting, and promotional activities.

This structured approach ensures that the CaMS Cataloging Collective remains integral to enhancing operational excellence and enriching staff development in cataloging at Princeton University Libraries.

Current CCC Committee Members:

A rotating committee of six people is in charge of coordinating and documenting CCC activities. All PUL staff who catalog are welcome both as members in the Collective and as committee members.
